As the holiday of Pesach quickly approaches, students in Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy (BHJA) are busy preparing and learning about the beautiful traditions of Pesach.
From making their own Haggadahs, to their own Seder plates, the kids are able to experience the beauty of the holiday through an interactive, hands on approach.
This past Friday, March 31st, Rabbi Yankel Raskin visited Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy (BHJA) to offer our students a matzah baking experience that he led. Not only were the kids able to make their own matzah but also able to review the history of Pesach through a fun, story telling learning opportunity with Rabbi Raskin. To continue their studies, our students visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art to gain a better understanding of what life in Egypt was like and our peoples’ exodus from Egypt in the year 2448.
This week, students will continue learning about the traditions of our Jewish faith that we have been practicing for the past 3300 years as we prepare for the model Seder this Friday, the last day of school before Pesach. Our kids are not only participating in this traditional meal, but they are busy preparing the meal itself. Charoset, Pesach cakes, and the full meal will be prepared by Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy (BHJA) students. In addition, using our interdisciplinary approach to education, our students are furthering their reading and writing skills in both Hebrew and English through the completion of their own Haggadahs, and their math skills through their visit to the local store where they will be buying the necessary meal ingredients, figuring out the total and the change that they expect to receive post paying.
