It was a night to remember.
One hundred fifty Crown Heights women poured into 580 Crown Street this past motzei shabbos. They came to celebrate the Women’s Circle’s fifth anniversary. They came to hear the emotional address of Mrs. Toby Brikman. They came for the food, for the fun, for the friendship.
They came because the Women’s Circle has found its niche in the neighborhood, its place in the hearts of the women of Crown Heights.
And they were not disappointed.
Brikman spoke about the devastating effects of her husband’s courageous seven-year battle with illness. She spoke about the strength the couple’s relationship had achieved prior to diagnosis and the stronger it became as the year’s, and his prognosis, wore on. She spoke about the power of community, of giving and taking, the power of family, of being there for each other, the power of self, of learning to overcome tragedy and self-restoration. Not a soul was not touched by her message of “chazak.”

Put on Your Oxygen Mask First was the profound, and entertaining message, provided by Sarah Esther Crispe. Tying in the mitzvos of a woman, and stories from her own life, Crispe shared the secrets of attaining full productivity and confidence through first taking care of one’s own needs.

Attenders entered two exciting raffles, for a bracelet sponsored by Mink Jewelers, won by Leah Winner and a stroller sponsored by Everything But the Baby, won by Tehilla Ohayon. Thanks to Mr. Green, Shabbos Fish, Sushi Spot, Artisan Bakehouse and Chantilly, fresh salads, salmon, sushi, paninis, and cheesecakes were enjoyed from the artful displays. Volunteers were thanked with beautiful bouquets, sponsored by Mimulo, for their tireless devotion to the Circle this past year.
In an exciting development, a new initiative, Imos Ubanos, a focused learning group for mothers and daughters, was unveiled.
The women came from across Crown Heights to laud the Circle’s achievements of the previous year and to look forward to their coming accomplishments. It was an evening of celebration, camaraderie, and personal growth. A perfect reflection of the Circle’s mission.

As I was unable to attend the motzei shabbos event, I thank youToby for being willing to share your words with a greater audience through COLlive.
