Chabad has long been a staple in the ever expanding Jewish community of Short Hills, New Jersey. And now, Chabad at Short Hills finally has its permanent home.
Rabbi Mendel Solomon and his wife Chana Devora, are a power couple that has successfully built a vibrant, warm and thriving community. They have a positive impact on people, regardless of their level of faith or religion.
After a long, grueling zoning application, Chabad at Short Hills purchased and is currently retrofitting their new 20,000 square foot plus building on a 4.2 acre property.
The synagogue and Chabad Center will be located at a main thoroughfare and will be ready in time for the record crowd that is expected at the start of the Jewish New Year.
Thousands of Chabad youth have been impacted by the Solomons’ leadership through their years of directing Gan Israel Day Camps and through their Shul, Hebrew School and outreach work.
The Solomons have done an incredible job of bringing Judaism and light to the Short Hills and surrounding communities. This acquisition of a new Chabad center is a huge accomplishment and one of the most anticipated Jewish centers to open in the general area.
“This has always been our dream and we are truly humbled to have reached this amazing milestone,” Rabbi Solomon said, “to build a Chabad House with enough space to host the growth this community has seen over the past two decades. This new edifice will, please G-d, host the Hebrew School that Chana Devora has built through her innovative, world-renowned curriculum and programming.
“The increase in applications to Hebrew School, the C-Teen Programs and Shul attendance can now be met in the comfort of the new space. We can now host large Simchas for the families that help make this community the incredible beacon of light that it is.”
Robin Sysler, a resident of Short Hills, says: “There is a great sense of excitement for this endeavor, and with the unparalleled support from their Kehillah, this dream has now become a blessed reality.”
“Finding their permanent home has been a long and somewhat arduous journey,” sais Sysler. “With their unwavering belief in HaShem’s plan for this to happen on His time, along with the guidance and the Rebbe’s Brochas, Chabad at Short Hills will continue to grow and spread its impact throughout the greater Metro-west Jewish community.”
