Farkas Drops $10,000 at 770

Chilean businessman and philanthropist Leonardo Farkas was last seen at the Kotel in Jerusalem handing out $100 bills to people singing Chabad nigunim.

On Thursday he was already in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, NY, once again demonstrating his generosity.

Farkas came to Lubavitch Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway to pay his respects to Mrs. Rivka Korf, a Chabad Shlucha in Miami for 58 years together with her husband, Rabbi Abraham Korf, Head Shliach of Florida.

It was in Miami when he worked as a piano player that Farkas became acquainted with Chabad and its welcoming approach to every Jew. Farkas later returned to Chile to lead his late father’s business empire.

After participating in the funeral outside 770, the blond and curly haired donor went inside the main shul where he joined one of the many minyanim for Shachris.

Over the years, Farkas donated many Sifrei Torah to Chabad and other institutions all over the world. One of them was at 770 and Farkas was honored with seeing it in worthy use by congregants.

At the conclusion of the Torah reading, Farkas was called up to ‘hagbah’. He opened the scroll wide enough to count 9 columns and proudly raised it up high to the smiles of people present.

One person there told COLlive that Farkas received a Mi Sheberach blessing during which he vowed to give to the 770 shul a generous donation of $10,000.
