Ten years ago, in the European country of Moldova, a non-Jewish construction worker began to question his life. He began his investigation into Judaism, and lost many friends and family along the way. Last year, his conversion became final. He is now learning in the Belz yeshiva in Israel, and engaged to be married. His kallah, Sarah, is also a convert.
However, for a convert like Daniel, an engagement can be a frightening time. They left behind everything with the dream of being Jewish. Now that dream has come true and they have woken to a stern reality: Their families have disowned them, they gave up a life of materialism for spirituality, and now they are beginning their lives as Jews in sobering poverty.
With their wedding date steadily approaching, the two converts are scrambling to build a modest future for themselves.
