By Rabbi Moshe Lieblich
As many are aware, about 6 months ago I started an organization to deal with the tuition crisis facing our community. My plan is to create an endowment fund of $100,000,000 over the next 10 years and use the interest to help struggling families.
It is a huge undertaking and B”H there has been a tremendous support from the community. As you can imagine many are skeptical of this novel idea, it almost sounds like a dream. I want to affirm my commitment to making this happen for both our children and our community.
One donor that recently made a donation wanted half of the money to be used now and half put away for the endowment, it is therefore with great pleasure that I announce that we will be giving out our first scholarship checks.
Our long term plan is that every million dollars raised, will bring in $40,000-$50,000 of accumulated interest a year. This will cover one class for a year, every year. A portion of the interest will be awarded towards raising teacher’s salaries and some will help struggling families.
As of current financial standing, we will be distributing scholarships on a case by case basis until we raise our first million dollars (with Hashem’s help, hopefully very soon).
Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible. Please use the following form to apply or visit our website to apply directly. Disbursements will be made starting January 2017.
Every donation is a meaningful donation. Not matter how large or small, whether it is $10.00 or $10,000.00, it would bring us closer to achieving our goal. So please take a moment and make a donation.
Our school is fiscally sound and our staff paid on time, every month. Most parents pay what they are supposed to with gratitude. The ones who kvetch rather spend their money elsewhere (a very few BH). I hope whoever decides who gets scholarships know what they are doing.
Btw. Parents in other states pay many times more. No choice and no scholarships. Who helps them?
…until schools are fully transparent about where every single dollar is going. I pay tuition, and I believe that I have a right to know and vote exactly where my money should go.
Until then, keep up the great work!
Reb moshe , many ppl are struggling middle class. We are the ines who need help!! We don’t get a kick in if good stamps or Medicaid every month. The extra five thousand dollars we show in our tax return makes us look “rich” and we need to stretch ourselves a thousands ways. We need to run around for grocery sales. So please make sure this scholarship won’t have a black n white line such as if u make 35000 under etc. it’s really a case by case basis
Thank u!
Thank you!
Does the Assistance apply to families 0nly living in NY?
