As the world prepares to mark the 30th Anniversary of the landmark verdict regarding the Rebbe’s Library, thousands of elementary school students around the world are enthusiastically embracing a number of well-prepared curriculums that are bringing the messages of this historic day into the classroom. Created by the staff of Jewish Educational Media, who worked with seasoned educators, the Hei Teves lesson plans were developed in coordination with Vaad Or v’Chom Hahiskashrus.
The project was funded by a grant lizchus Yosef Yitzchak ben Sara and Tzlacha Chana bas Rivka Gittel.
Rabbi Yehoshua Lustig, Principal of Oholei Torah said “this new beautifully prepared curriculum gave the Talmidim an incredible understanding of the events leading up to Hei Teves, the significance of the victory, and what it means to Chassidim today.”
Reporting directly from the classroom, Rabbi Yossi Kamman, Director of A Chassidisher Derher – who is teaching the curriculum to over 250 students – noted that ““This year’s Shturem regarding the 30th anniversary of Hei Teves and these new curriculums are creating a whole new Chayus by the children and opened them up to the Neshomo of Hei Teves. Vaad Or v’Chom Hahiskashrus and JEM deserve a big Yasher Koach,”.
Many schools have made special Hiskashrus projects in Honor of Shloshim Shana of Hei Teves incorporating gifts of Seforim as incentives for students who succeed on the material quizzes and exams. “Special mivtza Hiskashrus missions were planned to help our talmidim experience what the Rebbe stresses – Hama’aseh Hu Ha’ikar – the importance of owning and buying seforim,” said Rabbi Goldstein, assistant principal of Lubavitcher Yeshivah in Crown Heights.
Mrs. Shevi Sossonko, Boys school Principal at Lubavitch Educational Center in Miami said “Our teachers have been reviewing the Hei Teves curriculum that was beautifully prepared and they are excited to teach it and celebrate with their students in a true Yom Tov’dike fashion. We thank the committee for all their efforts”
Shluchim from smaller towns have turned to Vaad Or v’Chom Hahiskashrus to access the new curriculum and are teaching it to their own children in their homes. Rabbi Yossi Nemes from New Orleans told COLlive, “As the Rebbe often said regarding something which brought great nachas, ‘this is like cool water on a parched soul’. The content of these lesson plans is simply amazing; together with the PowerPoint and videos it successfully has given our children the feeling that Hei Teves is THEIR Yom Tov. Thank you to JEM for this extraordinary accomplishment!.”
