Last Sunday, 15 Tammuz – visiting day, marked 60 years since the Rebbe’s first visit to Camp Emunah B’nos Yaakov Yehudah in Greenfield Park, NY.
To help commemorate this auspicious day, Camp Emunah inaugurated two bunks that have been newly renovated thanks to the generous donors of the “Every Girl Should Feel Like A Princess” project.
The project was spearheaded by businessman Shaya Gordon, who worked together with Rabbi Shmulie Hecht to personally see to it that the more than $21,000 was raised and used specifically for the project.
Rabbi Hecht honored Shaya Gordon with affixing the first Mezuzah to the remodeled bunks. Gordon humbly accepted the honor and said that all he really wanted was the Mitzvah. “The real thank you goes to the generous men and women who have contributed to the renovations,” he said.
The second mezuzah was put up by Rabbi Zalman Friedman, the camp rabbi.
A sign with the names of the donors was placed on the bunk as well. Each donor listed contributed a minimum of $1000.
“We set a modest goal for Summer 5777 to be certain that the bunks be ready for the girls on time,” Rabbi Hecht said. “We, thank G-d, beat our deadline for this summer, and already have plans to begin demolition on the next bunk as early as August 22nd, the day after our campers go home.”
