Students at Chabad Girls Academy in Crown Heights recently visited the Shalom Senior Center and met the seniors there in honor of Rosh Hashana.
The trip was organized as part of the school’s special programming to do mivtzoim throughout the year.
The seniors were delighted when the girls arrived with their teachers. The girls rehearsed a few songs and one of the teachers brought her guitar to accompany the students while they sang.
There was a feeling of excitement in the room while the seniors joined in the music and began to experience a taste of the upcoming holiday.
A fun game of Rosh Hashanah picture bingo was played. Each student paired up with a senior and together they played the game and exchanged in conversation. The girls were very enthusiastic about being able to spend time with the seniors.
“It was really nice to teach the seniors about Rosh Hashanah”, said student Sara Levine. It was cool because these people are so much older than I am.”
Rabbi Shimon Hertz, Director of Shalom Senior Center said, “It was excellent the seniors really really liked it, and the girls enjoyed it too.”
The students were treated with a special bus ride back to school by Rabbi Hertz.
“It was a new experience for me which I really enjoyed,” commented Leah Berghoff on her way back to school.
