A father of four is fighting for life in hospital after suffering critical head injuries in a mysterious incident at a Mornington Peninsula Country Club.
Investigators believe the man, who was found unconscious on the grounds of the resort around 7.20am, may have fallen and struck his head while walking.
The 35-year-old was found with serious head injuries and suffering hypothermia, after spending the night lying outside, while his family slept in a nearby unit unaware.
“He’s been outside and exposed to the cold for some time, he was treated by ambulance for hypothermia and one of the main concerns was that his core body temperature was so low,” said Victoria Police sergeant Chris Russo.
Investigators say the man left his unit and went for a cigarette late last night and suffered the critical head injuries while walking in the grounds of the country club.
As his family was asleep, no one even knew he was missing.
“One of the avenues that we’re pursuing is that he may have fallen over but it may also be the case that there is some other involvement, at this stage we’re just not sure,” Sgt Russo added.
People holidaying at the resort were concerned by the incident.
“We’ve been coming here for 11 years and it’s a beautiful place to stay, so it’s very, very unusual, a bit unnerving,” Beverley Curtis said.
Forensics officers concentrated on a grassed area near the club’s carpark, where it appears the man tried to drag himself through a sandpit to get help.

Please say tehillim for Yitzchak Yonatan Zev Ben Yenta Sarah
It looks to me as if he was struck on the head by someone or attempted robbery and assault. You dont just fall over at 35. And he was dragged across grass??
your comments are shameful & self-serving…. were you there to inspect the area? Everyone in the community is shocked & davening for this man & his family… whether they know him or not… try following the Rebbe’s message to “tracht gut” … this may be the Outback but it is not the Wild West… a little bit of bittel goes a long way to waiting for the official results… and a lot of davening

The description of the injuries r”l make it all too clear. This ‘incident’ has all the earmarks of exactly what it was- yet another sneaky and cowardly attack by a psychotic monster on a Jew alone outside at night. Please- let’s not fool ourselves.
