900 Attorneys and Judges attended the 10th Annual Jewish Law Symposium on Monday September 26st at the Birchwood Manor, in Whippany. The Symposium featured a panel discussion entitled: “Law, Medicine and the Right to Decide”.
RWJ Barnabas Health President and CEO Barry H. Ostrowsky was the featured presenter at the event, and Rabbi Shalom Lubin, Founder of the Jewish Law Symposium & Chabad of SE Morris County moderated a panel discussion featuring: Kenneth Prager MD, Chairman, Medical Ethics Committee at Columbia University Medical Center, Professor Sharona Hoffman, Director of the Law-Medicine Center at Case Western Reserve University, and Rabbi Michael J. Broyde Legal Scholar at Emory University School of Law.
After a buffet dinner reception, Rabbi Shalom Lubin began the program by thanking all the attendees and sponsors, and shared the significance of the symposium being just before Rosh Hashanah.
“The laws and ethics of the Talmud have served as a cornerstone of humanity’s civil and moral infrastructure, while shaping its’ legal judicial systems. By contrasting the legal reasoning and adaptation of Talmudic and American Law, we can better focus on the legal and ethical dilemmas we encounter in real life scenarios from cradle to grave”, said Lubin
