Learning Legacy Continues at ULY

This week, United Lubavitcher Yeshiva held an award ceremony to recognize Talmidim who learned Tanya Bal Peh during the year.

Rabbi Yossi Simpson, principal of United Lubavitcher Yeshiva, Crown Street, greeted students from Grades 1- 4 on this special occasion.

For the 12th consecutive year the yeshiva students memorized thousands of lines of Tanya in memory of a special neshoma, Bat Sheva ob”m Kanelsky who passed away 65 days after birth, on the 10th of Adar, 2003.

Rabbi Simpson encouraged the students to continue learning Tanya Baal Peh, especially in the summer months when they have a break from school as well as during every waking moment. Their continuous learning would strengthen their connection to the Rebbe.

The program of learning Tanya Bal Peh was sponsored by Rabbi Mordechai and Mrs. Shterney Kanelsky, under the auspices of the “Bat Sheva Mitzvah Campaign to Greet Moshiach” which they launched 12 years ago in loving memory of their beloved daughter, Bat Sheva ob”m.

Rabbi Kanelsky greeted the students and spoke about Parshas Behaalotecha. The Torah describes how Aharon Hacohen kindled the Menorah for 40 consecutive years–äùò ïë–just as Moshe had instructed him. Would one ever think that Aharon would do other than what Moshe instructed him? When a person is instructed to do something, he does so with enthusiasm and excitement the first time and then again the second time. After that, the eagerness sometimes fades. The Torah continues that after 40 consecutive years, Aharon Hacohen exhibited the same level of enthusiasm and excitement as he had the first time. Rabbi Kanelsky connected the Parsha to this special mitzvah. He expressed his gratitude on behalf of his wife and family that even after 12 years the students of the yeshiva still have the same passion and fervor for the Tanya Baal Peh for this special Neshama. He ended by wishing them hatzlacha and thanked the principal and faculty for doing such a marvelous job of continuing this special mitzvah.

Following the program boys were rewarded with a hard cover and personalized Tanya, a colorful personalized laminated certificate, and a $2 bill. In the past 12 years, thousands of boys have participated in this program and earned well-deserved gifts for their efforts, sponsored by the “Bat Sheva Mitzvah Campaign to Greet Moshiach.”
