Rabbi Danny and Batsheva Cohen and their family are accustomed to hosting people for Shabbos meals around their table in the Jewish community of Chevron.
In general it is Israel Defense Forces soldiers that enjoy a delicious meal, joyous songs and Dvar Torahs. This week it will be a few residents from Brooklyn’s Crown Heights.
The visitors are members of Congregation Beis Shmuel Chabad who keep a place in their heart for Israel and its citizens.
Most recently, during the 2014 war with Gaza, members sent pairs of Tefillin, necessities and gifts to IDF soldiers stationed on the front lines of the battle.
The group is visiting the city of Chevron to give “Chizuk to the people of Israel during these difficult times,” said Rabbi Moshe Pinson, founder of Beis Shmuel who is on the trip.
On Friday, they visited and prayed at the Maaras HaMachpelah, one of the holiest places for the Jewish people. Its purchase by our patriarch Avraham is detailed in this week’s Parsha of Chayei Sarah.
Together with the Cohens, the visitors from New York plan on holding a farbrengen and express their support for the brave Jewish residents living in the volatile city with some 250,000 Arabs.
