Mrs. Bluma Lebovics, who lived through the horrors of the Holocaust to build a beloved family in Canada, passed away on Shabbos Parshas Shemini, 20 Adar II 5774.
She was 94.
She was the widow of the late Berl Lebovics, the chazan of Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem (“TBDJ”), a modern-orthodox synagogue located in Cote St. Luc, serving the West End of Montreal.
Born in Vac, Hungary, both she and her husband survived the Second World War, when Nazi German forces occupied Hungary and deported some 600,000 Hungarian Jews to the Auschwitz death camp in Poland.
During the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, the major yet ill-fated nationwide revolt against Soviet rule which occupied Eastern Europe, the middle aged Lebovics couple made the move from Europe to Montreal where they successfully replanted their family.
She merited to be among the rebuilders of Jews and Judaism after the Holocaust and have grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Toronto, Montreal and Lauderhill, Florida, Shluchim, following the Jewish tradition and involved in communal affairs.
She is survived by her sons R’ Yosef Zvi Lebovics of Toronto, Ontario and Chazan Yitzchok Zev Lebovics of Montreal; and grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Chava (Haba) Teich of Ofra/Haifa, Israel.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and many family members, murdered al Kiddush Hashem in 1944 in Auschwitz and her brother Reb Meir Hirschfeld of Haifa, Israel.
The Levaya will be today, Sunday 21 Adar II at 3 PM from TBDJ Shul, 6519 Baily Rd. CSL. Kevura will be in S. Sophie, Mirabel, Quebec.
Shiva will be at the her home, 6518 Baily Rd. Cote S. Luc Quebec until Friday afternoon 27 Adar II – March 28. Shachris at 7:30 and 8:15 AM. Mincha-Maariv at 7 PM.
