Shluchim and Anash from around Eastern Massachusetts joined together Tuesday for an evening of chassidishe warmth and unity celebrating Yud Tes Kislev.
The event, sponsored by Shaloh House Jewish Day School in Brighton, attracted 200 attendees, including many parents of Shaloh House students.
After sharing his insights about the unique contributions of both the Alter Rebbe and our Rebbe, guest speaker Rabbi Zalman Leib Markowitz spoke on the topic of Effective Parenting. Rabbi Markowitz stressed the importance of showing each child his or her unique value, and the need for every child to grow up with a feeling of emotional safety.
In 2006, Rabbi Markowitz was appointed by Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters as an educational and parenting consultant to the Chabad institutions around the world. Many of those who attended Tuesday’s celebration said they came because of the good advice they had personally received over the past years from Rabbi Markowitz.
Rabbi Dan Rodkin, head of Shaloh House, introduced the speaker and noted that nachas from children is a seed for all blessings. “If you have nachas from your kids, you will have shalom bayis and if you have shalom bayis you will have gezundt and if you have good health you will have good parnosa.”
The evening’s festivities included a lavish smorgasbord including an abundance of sushi and a chocolate fondue fountain. Approximately 70 children took part in a separate children’s program with multiple stations and activities and a deluxe dairy menu.
Shaloh House runs a nationally award-winning elementary school, extremely popular preschool and after-school programs, a Sunday school, a daily synagogue, and the Jewish Russian Center of Boston. For more information, go to www.shaloh.org.
