Members of the Lubavitch community in Paris attended the annual community Melave Malka that is held on Motzoei Shabbos Parshas Breishit, the first following the month of Tishrei.
It is a tradition that was started by Rabbi Shmuel “Moule” Azimov, the late and known Head Shliach of Paris, based on the saying that the way people observe Shabbos Breishit has an effect on the entire year.
The large meal held at the Beth Haya Moushka, Chabad’s educational campus, was an opportunity to celebrate the year of Hakhel Jewish gathering, as instructed by the Rebbe.
The emcee was Rabbi Benyamin Mergi. Speakers included Rabbi Chaim Nissenbaum, Rabbi Gedalya Nissenbaum and a special guest from Jerusalem – Rabbi Binyomin Zilberstrom.
In his remarks, Rabbi Mendel Azimov detailed how his father began his famous Jewish outreach work, leading to the building of a flourishing Lubavitch community with many institutions and services.
He emphasized the Yechidus his father had with the Rebbe 50 years ago this week where the Rebbe blessed “may it be with great success, which great is such a success that is beyond speculation.”
The formal part of the evening continued with a chassidic farbrengen with Reb Moule’s second son, Rabbi Levi Azimov. It lasted until the early hours of the morning encouraging participants to lead a “successful” year in Torah and Mitzvos.
