Thousands of people take their courses, watch their online videos, go on their lavish summer learning retreats and travel on their annual trip to the Holy Land. Now, they will be using their game as well.
The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, commonly known by its initials JLI, is selling a new card game called “How Jew You Do?” and marketed as a “Jewish experience in a box.”
The game is designed to share Jewish values with friends and children. It offers to turn every night of the week into a fun and meaningful Jewish experience for the entire family.
“This came out of a need to connect parents and children in a Jewish conversation,” said Rabbi Mendel Sirota of the administration of JLI. “Children might be learning Torah, and parents might be learning, but this is fun way to connect it all.”
The game is part of the Kohelet Fellowship Program, funded by Kohelet Foundation which aims to strengthen the Jewish Day School education model and runs targeted campaigns to strengthen Jewish identity.
40 question cards are divided in 5 categories: Memories, Imagination, Identity, Favorites, and Character. Participants are encouraged to share a memorable Jewish experience in their life or share their opinion about dealing with a moral issue.
There are no right or wrong answers and no time limit, JLI says. Feel free to get carried away in a family discussion. Nothing creates stronger families than meaningful time together.
“We gave them out as end of year gifts to all of our discussion group families. They all loved it,” Rabbi Eliyahu Schusterman, Director of Chabad Intown in Atlanta, wrote in a review on Amazon.com.
He wrote: “It is a great tool to lead discussion groups, start a discussion at your Shabbat table, give it to people who are trying to inspire others but have a hard time getting the conversation started. All in all a great gift with meaningful and fantastic thought provoking content.”
Necha Levitan wrote on Amazon: “This card game is ideal as an ice breaker for all ages. The questions make you think and gives people the opportunity to voice their opinions and learn from others. I highly recommend this product.”
Rabbi Sirota told COLlive.com that “at this time we aren’t working on any additional games, however we are working on other programs and products for children.”
