HATS OFF TO #11! SOMEBODY I AGREE WITH. But we do have to be careful about strangers! You never know!

He might have told the parents that he would bring their children back afterwards.

#5, That’s very true…
and #6, they wanted to test to see if they really would. He wouldn’t actually run off with the kid. And plus, the parent was watching since she already knew about it!

Wow

This video just freaked me out!

No need to teach kids fear
May 5, 2015 11:45 am

I dont think we should teach our kids to be afraid of strangers rather to be cautious and always check with a parent if it is safe to go and play with that stranger.

Something to think about

Interesting how the parents would talk to strangers openly and still think they’re kids won’t…

We are our children’s role models.

Wake up

A few years ago I was in lefferts park and my kid was almost abducted! I looked away for 2 seconds. A miracle saved my kid that day! Selective friendliness is important.

A grateful mother!

Thank you, it makes me realize how serious I have to be on this topic with my children.

You’re the man! Awesome points!

700 children
May 4, 2015 3:39 pm

700 a year is in the whole world, not only in the US.
There are children outside the USA.

Finally a voice of reason between all this senseless fear mongering….

Experiment looks a bit questionable… Or some parents are really naive. Which parent lets some stanger just walk off with their kid because they claim they’re doing an experiment? And then just watches, looking in in horror as the kid walks off without getting up and following their kid?!

It’s a PUPPY!!!! & I AM FRUM & LUBAVITCH & my kids love puppies, let alone kittens!!! It has nothing to do with Lubavitch!!! This is GR-8! I already saw this elsewhere & shared it with my friends!!!!

these you tubers normally have a crew behind them: photographers, sound people, plus they don’t show all the footage. So it’s possible that they tried the experiment after talking to the parents for more than 30 seconds

total BS
May 4, 2015 2:42 pm

over 700 kids are abducted a day is a total misleading. the amount of kids that are actually abducted by a STRANGER is about 100-200 a YEAR.
In the US with 300,000,000 people the chances of it happening is less than being struck by lightning. Abduction by a parent in a custody dispute is where the 700 a day comes in.

You are right that our kids are afraid of dogs – but not of people. We need to address that.

CONTEXT
May 4, 2015 1:44 pm

This pseudo-helpful video, posted yesterday, is going viral. It already has 120,000 likes, which means that at least 120,000 folks must think its creator, Joey Salads, is doing something other than creating terror, angst and hate with his Stranger Danger “social experiment.” As you’ll see, Mr. Salads asks parents if they’ve taught their kids not to talk to strangers — a lesson I don’t endorse, since most strangers are good and you want kids to feel confident asking strangers for help, if they need it. “You can TALK to anyone, you cannot go OFF with anyone,” is the advice I… Read more »

Those were my first thoughts!!!! Luckily my kids, and most kids here are afraid of dogs/cats..

This was an example with a dog, but it can be with a toy, ball, candy etc.

How reliable can this experiment be?
May 4, 2015 1:15 pm

On the one hand, yes… It is worrisome how the children “went” for it and accompanied the stranger. But then again…. if the child so from afar that this stranger was talking to his/her mother, it is possible that in the child’s mind the stranger, was no stranger to her mother, so acceptable as no stranger to him/her either. Granted, #4, the culprit is often no stranger to the child, which makes this experiment, though enlightening and worth the moment you take to watch, informative yet somewhat unreliable per se.

Parents
May 4, 2015 1:07 pm

In this video, the parents allowed this to happen. Why are parents talking to strangers and allowing this person to experiment on their kid? Who is to say that this Joe person wouldn’t walk off with the kid. I think the parents also failed in this test.

not in lubavitch

the kids are mostly afraid of dogs

Review the ABCD of Safety–Magen Yaladim’s Safety Kid!
C is for Check First: Children should never go with anyone or take anything from ANYONE without checking first…This goes far beyond stranger danger and reminds children that they also need to tell parents when the person trying to spend time with them and give them gifts ( or show them puppies) is someone familiar. As a frum professional who deals the trauma of abuse daily I can tell you that withIn our communities it is often someone known who has groomed the child!

Don't rely on a Miracle
May 4, 2015 11:42 am

We tell our kids not to to talk to strangers, but we don’t break it down enough for them. that the stranger is usually not scary looking person, they could actually seem very nice and normal. Kids need to understand what you mean by the word stranger. When you talk to kids you need to bring it down to their level and ask them specific questions to make sure they understand. This video could be a great way to open a discussion with your kids. Thank you so much for putting it on collive and may Hashem always protect our… Read more »
