The annual yartzeit of Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzeira OBM, the great Moroccan Torah sage famously known as “Baba Sali,” will be celebrated Sunday, January 5 at 7:00 PM at Kol Yaacov Hall, located on the corner of McDonald Avenue and Avenue O in Flatbush.
Rabbi Lazer Avtzon of the Merkaz Sepharad Chabad of Crown Heights invited the public to the hilula event held in conjunction with Rabbi Gad Bouskila of Cong. Netivot Israel of Flatbush.
The Baba Sali, a kabbalist, was renowned for his ability to work miracles and had a especially warm relationship with the Rebbe until his passing on 4 Shevat 5744 (1984) an burial in Netivot, Israel. The funeral was attended by an estimated 100,000 people.
The event, which typically carries festive tone to it, with liturgical hymns and Sephardic melodies sung, will be addressed by Rabbi Raphael Abuchatzeira of Ashdod, a son of Baba Meir and grandson of the Baba Sali.
