This bus is not made for counting.
Criticism has led Israel’s nation-wide bus company Egged to scrap the daily notification to passengers to remember to count the Omer, a mitzvah from the Torah.
Observed between the holidays of Pesach and Shavuos, the LED transport signage on buses ran the line about the number that “day of the Omer” was and should be counted.
Photos of the digital counter were posted in recent days on Facebook by passengers who were both grateful and fascinated by the service.
But Egged has decided to halt the notification service, Israel National News reported, after criticism was voice for the signage being used for purposes other than informing the name of the next stop, estimated time of arrival, etc.
Idan Yosef, a commentator at the News1 web site, called it “irrelevant information” and argued that “public transportation cannot be allowed to present information that ignores entire populations.”
In response, Egged shut the program down, according to the Kikar HaShabbat web site. The company, which has a high percentage of observant passengers, did not respond to a request for comment.
It was cool that they managed to get it up there in the first place…
umm, what does that have to do with anything, #5 ????!!
And Bamba advertisements are irrelevant to the entire population of people who are allergic to peanuts or don’t want to eat the fattening snack. I suppose those will be removed as well.
Agree with # 2, totally ashame. But, I guess it’s better to have those inappropriate pictures on the sides of buses. It’s better to see that than observe who we are.
Do they not exclude entire populations??
How sad…jews embarrassed of who they are.
We must be proud of being Jews in Jewish state ….
Who really cares and knows of what kind of ads are running on the bus screen …
