The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, on January 25th, with the participation of top European and Jewish leaders.
It was organized in cooperation with the European Jewish Congress (EJC), European Jewish Community Centre (EJCC) and European Coalition for Israel (ECI) and under the Patronage of the President of the European Parliament.
Rabbi Avi Tawil and his wife Nechama, co-directors of EJCC, a center for Jewish officials working at the European institutions, oversaw the evening’s proceedings which included lighting yahrzeit candles by holocaust survivors.
In attendance were (some addressing the crowd as well): Mr. Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliment, Lady Ashton, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Mr. Ron Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress, Mr. Moshe Kantor, President of the European Jewish Congress, Ms. Corinne Evens, Co-Founder of the European Jewish Community Centre, Rabbi Gershon Mendel Garelik, Head Shliach of Italy, Mr. Maros Sefcovic, Vice President of the European Commission, Chief Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, Chairman of Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and Yuli Edelstein, Israeli Minister of Diaspora.
