Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak and Rivka Devorah Gruzman will soon be moving to be the new Chabad Shluchim in Dusseldorf, the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
An international business and financial centre and renowned for its fashion and trade fairs, the city is home to the third largest Jewish community in the country, after Berlin and Munich.
The city’s estimated 10,000 Jews are comprised mostly of immigrants from the former Soviet Union, as well as native Jews and Israeli expats. Dusseldorf was ranked 6th city in Mercer’s 2012 international Quality of Living survey.
They have been served until today by Shluchim Rabbi Chaim and Dvora Barkahn, co-directors of the Rohr Chabad Lubavitch Center in Dusseldorf.
The Gruzmans – Yosef Yitzchak originally from Vienna, Austria and Devora (nee Korzog) from Boro Park – will be assisting the Barkahns with community programming and a chapter of CTeens for local youngsters.
They were appointed by Head Shliach of Germany Rabbi Yisroel Diskin, with the support of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch.
