Have you ever found yourself looking for a job only to feel like you’re fumbling in the dark? Or maybe you have a career plan clearly laid out in your mind, but you are unsure of how to pursue it? Maybe you simply don’t have the necessary education, or the means to acquire it.
Here in Crown Heights, the new Geshem Career Center has been addressing these concerns of local residents. Since its opening in May 2011, Geshem has been offering a variety of educational and vocational courses to Crown Heights community members. These courses include Graphic Design, Office and QuickBooks, Networking, GED Preparation and Video Production.
Courses are separate for men and women and are open to all (post-high school) ages, and over 150 successful students have already passed through the organization’s doors.
As a result of Geshem’s success thus far, combined with the rising need expressed by the community, Geshem has announced that three new courses will be opening in the beginning of December. The winter semester will feature a Web Design course for women, an Office and QuickBooks course for men and a Web Development course for men. Applications are now being accepted for these three courses at www.geshemcenter.com.
The goal of these courses is to provide the students with genuine career training opportunities, so that they can go on to pursue a career of their choice.
“The response from the community has been amazing,” notes Rabbi Levi Kaplan, Director of the Geshem Center. “Most of our courses have filled up very quickly.
“Ovbiously our goal is not just to provide basic courses. We want to bring people from point A to point Z. We want them to walk out with the capability to head straight into a job, which is precisely what our courses have been achieving.”
Indeed, many alumni are now working full-time, due to the training that they received at Geshem.

I am taking the Networking plus course that starts this Sunday. The more people that sign up for these courses, the lower the cost per student and the more robust the course selection will be.
