such as the original Jewish community described in this article, you might enjoy reading the (fiction) book entitled Full Harvest, available at your local Judaica store. Found it an interesting and informative read, especially the non-fiction appendix that personalizes this passage in American Jewish history.

Not mentioned by name, Diane Margolis’s parents were Nash and Bea Muchin. From what I remember, when the shul there closed, Nash opened a shul in his house to keep the minyan going. I did not know of a family connection to Chabad, was that on the Muchin side? Was quite a feat to raise an orthodox family in a place like that.

Seriously fantastic writer this one is.

” In the gentle manner of a father speaking to his daughter, he said, ‘You swam in Lake Michigan, you can go to the mikvah.’ ”

Exquisite intro clause to that quote.

Looking forward to the next piece.
