U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman, who was deeply influenced by the Rebbe, is working on a book about his Jewish faith and orthodox observance, the AP is reporting.
Simon & Schuster?s Howard Books division announced Thursday that ?Gift of Rest? will come out in August and will reflect on Lieberman?s observance of Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest.
The latest example was in October 2009 when he skipped a fundraiser with President Barack Obama in Stamford because it was held on Shabbos.
The 68-year-old Lieberman, a longtime Connecticut Democrat re-elected as an independent in 2006, was the first Jew on a national ticket. As Al Gore‘s running mate in 2000, he narrowly missed becoming the first Jewish vice-president.
He recently announced he would not run in 2012.
Lieberman is a regular at Chabad events and interacts in his travels with many Shluchim around the world, helping pursue the noble goals of shlichus outreach.
He has been particularly close with Rabbi Yisroel Deren and his wife Vivi, the Shluchim in his hometown, and with Rabbi Avrohom Shemtov and his son Rabbi Levi Shemtov of American Friends of Lubavitch in Washington, DC.
His wife Hadassah Lieberman was the guest speaker at the gala banquet of the 2010 International Kinus Hashluchos.
He voted for immoral laws that go againts the Torah. He does NOT represent me,
Joseph Lieberman you are inspiring to all lubavethers at Chabad as you represent us all in the political arena as doing mitsvahs. I look forward to your book coming this summer and many love you representing Chabad in Washington DC. SHOLOM,Jeffrey Tobias,Portland, Oregon Chabad
