In the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, it appears that crime around Brooklyn is up in recent days, as muggers and looters take advantage of power outages and lack of police resources.
Even in Crown Heights, where the destruction has been kept to a minimum, a Lubavitcher woman was mugged Tuesday evening at approximately 9:15 pm at the corner of Schenectady and Carroll Street.
The victim, described as a 28-year-old chassidic female, was approached by three male blacks who demanded her belongings.
This incident comes a day after a mugging on Monday evening, when a Lubavitcher male was robbed at 7:30 pm on Albany Avenue and President St.
The male victim was attacked by the muggers, who beat and punched him. He sustained minor injuries. The incident was caught on surveillance video, and is extremely violent.
A statement by the NYPD 71st Precinct that covers Crown Heights has said they strongly believe these robberies are related and is making them a pattern.
They said they will deploy extra personnel in the immediate area in an effort to stop any further robbery attempts.
The 71 Precinct Detectives will be handling the Crown Heights mugging investigation. Anyone with information is strongly urged to call the 71 Detective Unit at 718-735-0501.
Brooklyn President Marty Markowitz called Wednesday for presence of the National Guard “to supplement the great work being done by our brave—but overwhelmed—first responders, including our amazing NYPD and FDNY.”
Markowitz said “there have been unfortunate incidents of looting in some locations” but that “all of our resources have been stretched to the limit.”

were is Da hynes going after these thugs and charging them with a hate crime? Were is Hynes calling for a investigative grand jury? It seems that Hynes is only going after Mr Shuchat because he is Jewish. There have been over 20 deadly assualts in crownheights this year and not once has the cases been labeled as a hate crime .

She should have screamed loudly and run away. Last night I was walking on E.Pkwy; in opposite direction I saw a big black male slowly creeping up towards a young Jewish woman. As I passed her I said “keep your eyes open”. She looked around and saw him, moved closer to the road & street lights and walked fast away from him. When his plan was foiled, he turned around to look at me, now some distance from him. We must be constantly stay alert-especially at night.
So do it! Don’t wait for someone else to take the initiative. Be the one to get people together to put in the cameras, start patrolling etc. Do it!

People should start helping the watch groups patrol the streets. We should also put up video cameras wherever we can.
These small things can help make our community a lot safer.

Wasn’t there a time, like in Williamsburg, that when a Yid was attacked, the shout of “CHAPTZEM” would bring out dozens of Chasidim ready to take action.
To all those crying self defense. Self defense only helps to a point. As soon as you’re outnumbered, it goes out the window. One male with one male, and he might get away. One female with one male – very unlikely unless she’s a blackbelt and he’s a lightweight. We have a real problem on our hands.

Apparently it was an attempted assault. No need for details. We MUST get cameras all over the place and have proper 24/7 patrols, at least by vehicles. If the police won’t or can’t protect us we have no choice but to do it ourselves.
It’s no good going to CHJCC, either they can’t or won’t help either. I remember the early days of patrols in Crown Heights when lawlessness was not much worse than it is now. Are we waiting for real serious stuff? Does somebody have to die?

The cops need to bring back decoy cops to apprehend and thwart these crimes, and if not shomrim should act as decoys. Armed of course.
Once we have cameras hopefully imminently, the crime will miraculously vastly drop.

Until then, my perecepton of what I once thought was a relatively safe place and dramatically changed.
