Thousands of participants in the March of the Living marched Monday from the gate of Auschwitz to Birkenau, where a memorial ceremony was held at a monument to the camp’s victims.
During the ceremony, Chabad rabbinical students wrapped Tefillin with more than 500 people. The opportunity to practice a mitzvah at these sites where so much of Jewish life was destroyed, was well received.
“Many people who put on Tefillin with us told us that they felt this was the most fitting thing to do, that the best way to respond to the Holocaust is to do another mitzvah,” says 20 year-old Yehuda Glaser, from Chicago, IL.
He was there with Yosef Kramer, Shlomo Freedman, Mendel Lifshitz and Gershi Halprin.
A Californian man who visited the Tefillin booth told Glaser that although he has a pair of Tefillin back at home, but hadn’t been using them recently.
After donning Tefilin at the ceremony, “he told me that he will begin wrapping Tefilin every day when he gets back home,” Glaser said.
u are elavating the place wich soo much bad happened and the people that passed away are being elavated
you probably did not mean what you said.
We’re proud of our homegrown Chicago talent: Yehuda Glaser, as well as all the Chabad representatives. Kiddush HaShem for sure.

Show your face!
The entire ‘choots laretz’ is tamei however it cerainly doesn’t mean we should not do Mitzvas there.
fantastic. Best revenge ever, to be putting tefillin on jews exactly where they tried to destroy it.
G-d bless those boys.
may the zechus of this big mivtza bring us to the Geula NOW!!
always involved in something good 🙂
you are aweosome
VERY IMPRESSED!
your a moron
tumah?? if anything the opposite!
As far as I know, the tumah by Paroh was the Idol worship, not the fact that he killed Jews. I don’t believe there was any Avodah Zoro going on in the concentration camps. And place is a good place for mivtza tefillin, as long as it’s permissable according to Shulchan Aruch.
As Yidden, and particularly as chassidim, we appreciate the kedusha of kivrei-tzaddikim, and Auschwitz is the resting place of Yidden who died al-kiddish-Hashem, kedoshim. It’s hallowed ground.
Rebbe Nachman of Breslov asked to be buried in Uman specifically because it was where of thousands of Jewish martyrs died al-kiddush-Hashem.
Though I’m not crazy about the Tziyoni aspect of the March of the Living trips, how special it is for these Yidden to be putting on tefillin.
If Moshe Rabenu had to leave Pharoh in order to daven for him how can one pray in a place like Auswich which is full of tumoh????? Surely there are better places to do Tephillin Mivtozim!!!
