A Siyum and Hachnosas Sefer Torah was held on Wednesday, March 16 – 10 Adar for a Torah written in memory of Rebbetzin Sarah Rochel Schochet obm, wife of the Los Angeles “Rosh” Rabbi Ezra Schochet.
Mrs. Schochet was a beloved teacher, mentor to hundreds of girls and women, and a matriarch to yeshiva students of Ohr Elchonon Chabad Yeshiva in Los Angeles. The community was shocked at her passing one year ago at the age of 65.
Hundreds attended the celebration in her memory, which included singing and dancing through the Los Angeles streets as the Torah was brought to Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon Chabad.
“The whole city responded to the joy as we filled the streets of West Hollywood during rush hour,” said one participant. “Cars were honking and their drivers smiling. The celebration of Mrs. Schochet’s neshama was infectious.”
