LONDON (EJP)—Members of the Jewish community in Stamford Hill and Golders Greens, two areas of North London, have been advised not to walk alone and to be careful when going to synagogue on the holiday of Tisha B’Av as riots that began Saturday night in the north London neighborhood of Tottenham spread throughout the British capital. The area has gone on high alert.
More than 450 people have been arrested since Saturday, when police shot an alleged drug dealer in Tottenham, which is comprised mainly of immigrant and second and third-generation immigrants.
British Police have urged store owners to close their establishments in Stamford Hill and Golders Green as many store owners have emptied the contents of the stores.
According to reports, large groups of youths are walking through the Jewish area of Golders Green and started to riot. At least two stabbings were reported Monday night in Stamford Hill. Police have arrived in force and have arrested two people.
No synagogues have been reported damaged in the riots, though some Jewish-owned stores have been ransacked, according to the Jewish Chronicle weekly newspaper.
Following warnings from local rabbis and the Shomrim Orthodox security service, most members of the Jewish community stayed away from the riots, according to the British Jewish newspaper. They were advised that they could go to synagogue, however.
A representative from the Board of Deputies of British Jews joined a mulltifaith “vigil of hope” on Monday evening in Tottenham.
Some 300,000 Jews live in Britain, the great majority of them in the Greater London area. Other main centres of Jewish life are Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Gateshead and Glasgow.

Yea okay its really bad but people are making it out to be worse then it is. Not only in other Countrys but here to! To think that this can’t happen in the USA is stupid. Don’t you remember the Rodney King riots, or Crown Heights in 91? Or the civil rights riots in Chicago, NY? Stores were looted, burned and entire neighborhoods emptied out as a result if those riots.

London does not know how to handle this situation. They need to bring in the Army or National Guard to restore Law and Order. With tear gas, water cannons, charging horses and a curfew or be shot. Then it will soon end. We went through this situation in The 91 Riots for 4 days. Then the Police on horses came in, and would not let them through.

I can actually relate to number one. While no one wants anyone hurt or damage done, there is something about watching horses stampede past burning fires that transports you to a different era, and space, and not just in time. There are about 8 different areas in London, asof last night, that have had gangs of youth rioting, smashing shops and grabbing whatever they can get and starting fires. It has gone to three provincial areas and there is NOW rioting in Manchester. Lets hope as the evening goes on there will be no more trouble elsewhere……i have a funny feeling this will continue. There are a lot more police on the streets now.
And what about manchester?? Here we have police shooting around with plastic bullets coz theyre so out of control, missiles are being thrown at police and the city centre’s shops are on fire, with all the guys looting shops and throwing around alit cars…. is this tisha bav or what??
