As someone responsible for the education of hundreds of children, it would be remiss of me not to share this incredibly valuable resource we recently discovered.
Your students and children will be forever grateful to you. In my role as a principal I am always looking out for any new resources that will help my students and children to gain the most from their schooling experience.
I was very excited when I chanced upon Back to Basics, a Sicha prepared each week in a way that students can actually learn the Sicha on their own, facilitating true independent learning and an incredible sense of mastery and accomplishment.
The format of the Back To Basic sicha enables the teacher to assign independent study, allowing the students to try learning the sicha on their own. This encourages differentiated learning in a classroom of varying academic levels. Students on a higher level can learn independently while the format also gives the weaker student, or one not so fluent in Yiddish or Hebrew, a chance to follow along with the translations provided, and understand the Sicha.
I presented this curriculum to my teachers who shared my enthusiasm in being given a resource that will enable them to teach the Rebbe’s sichos from inside the text. The choice of wording used in the translation of the text of the sichos is student friendly and aids the students in understanding and explaining what they learn.
In addition, the summary of the concepts further assists and ensures that the students comprehended the points and message of each sicha correctly. The clear typeset, optional levels of support built into each weekly sicha, beautiful graphics, well thought through formatting and concept review questions at the end allow students to learn, integrate and connect with the information in a way that makes learning a sicha meaningful.
Thanks to the back to basics curriculum, our students simultaneously build skills and develop concepts.
I am very impressed with the Back to Basics curriculum and its incorporation into our classes has been met with very positive feedback from our teachers, students and parents.

The Back2Basic sichos are available on Rabbi Garelik’s website sichosonline.org.
It is a fabulous website that has a weekly shiur in Likutei Sichos given by Rabbi Garelik (video) , with the sources right there on the screen.
While these shiurim are in clear English and on the later Volumes of Likutei Sichos (volumes 5 and on), under each sicha, Rabbi Garelik has a a link to the Back2Basic sicha which are on the first four volumes of Likutei Sichos.

this empowers kids at home and school to “own” the ability to learn independently, while learning chassidus

As a baalas tchuvah of many years, I have always been discouraged over my inability to learn sichos inside. This wonderful resource has made it possible. I even can sit down with my daughters and enjoy learning it together, as a fun activity and challenge to learn the Yiddush words. Kudos to the bachurim that have put their time and energy into this project. It enables us to be exposed to the rebbe’s loshon in the most user friendly way imagineable.
