Yehuda Groden, a 23 year-old with his life ahead of him, has passed away on Wednesday, 2 Teves 5772 during his sleep in his parents’ home in California.
He was 23.
As a child, he learned in Chabad’s Hebrew Academy of Long Beach and later continued to the Valley Torah, Yeshivah Bais Menachem in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and most recently the Cal State University.
He is survived by his parents Dr. Yossi and Chaya Groden and siblings R’ Mendel Groden of Crown Heights, Sarah Leah Groden, Levi Groden and Schneur Zalman Groden of Long Beach.
The levaya took place on Friday where the family requested that people learn something or do a Mitzvah in memory of Yehuda Aryeh Leib ben Yosef Moshe.
The family will be sitting Shivah at 3938 Pine Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90807.

I just found out today that Yehuda passed away and I am completely devastated. I am so sorry for your loss. Yehuda and I took calculus together and we studied in the math lab together. He was so kind hearted and very intelligent; he would get 100%’s on his calculus exams! I will miss him dearly. Yehuda’s family is in my prayers. It was an honor and a blessing knowing Yehuda.
R.I.P Yehuda, you willbe greatly missed

Yehuda was a very vocal member of the WLS community. It was not good enough for him that he found truth (or emes) is the form of the most successful option for surgery, nbut he wanted to make sure that others learned the truth of th options available, and he strived to make sure that OTHERS were aware of the options available so that they didnt make poor choices based on the bad or incomplete advice some doctors were offering.
Yehuda will be missed.
Yehuda was always there with a kind word for others who struggled with WLS. He had a kindness to him that endeared him to all. May His memory always be a blessing to those that were priviledged to know him. Your family, his many online friends and his faith raised and shaped an exceptional young man.
Sending prayers from the WLS youtube group – so thankful for the blessing to have known him. May God bless your family and keep you while you are in this grieving process.
I did not have the honor of knowing him. May Hashem bring only peace to you and your family. There are no words to say for such a terrible thing.
So very sad!
“Although its difficult today to see beyond the sorrow may looking back in memory help comfort you all tomorrow!”
Yehuda was a hero to many within the online communities he was a part of. His passing is truly a sad and tragic event. He touched the lives of many people and will be missed, but not forgotten. My condolences.
After this journey through the dark, you’ll find the path once again where light still shines. I believe in you.

Yehuda was a special young that taught me a lot weight issues through YouTube. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I will miss him. You raised a wonderful young man.
I’ve only gotten to know alittle about Yehuda throughout his videos..And what I’ve gotten to know he was a brilliant young man with a sense that enlightened his spiritual outlook with a glow. Yehuda was a wonderful and kind young man. I had the privilege of sharing a small part of his life through an on line support community. His enthusiasm, intelligence and zest for life was astounding. I am in shock and deeply saddened by his passing. He will be sorely missed and thought of often. Know that you are in my prayers and thoughts. May you find comfort in God during this time of sorrow.

Yehuda had an extended internet family who loved him very much. His intelligent, generous and wise-beyond-his-years postings were valuable contributions to our online community. Thank you for sharing him with us. Our hearts are with you in this difficult time, and we mourn with you in our own ways. In one of his last posts, Yehuda said: “I am very grateful to have had a wonderful holiday season this year. … I am very grateful to be in good health. … I am grateful for my friends, family, and my job. Life is good.” He sounded happy, and I hope… Read more »
I had the chance to “meet” Yehuda from an online support group he participated in for those of us struggling with weight. I found him to be an incredibly bright, giving, and sweet young man. I did not have the chance to tell him how inspirational I found him to be. He made a tremendous impact on the world and the lives of others.
To his family and friends, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Words cannot express my sorrow. I just wanted you to know how truly special I found Yehuda to be.

I “met” Yehuda on line in a support group for weight loss. I guessed that he was an observant Jew, and as a Jewish mother, fondly read his posts. To his parents, and siblings, I offer my deepest sympathies on the loss of your son, and brother. May his memory be a blessing.
Extremely saddened by this news, Yehuda was a kind soul who’s impact on the world will never be measured.

I met Yehuda in 2010 and we developed a lovely friendship. I felt alternately maternal and sisterly toward him as he strove to live an active and healthy life. He was a generous, compassionate and passionate young man, and his presence on earth has left an palpable emptiness. His life was a gift to us, now I hope to give back in response to his life .
RIP and G-d Bless You, Yehuda. – Barbie
Such a kind, generous, and loving soul. You were a lover of animals and had the most wonderful sense of humor. My life is better and forever enriched because of knowing you. May the peace which passes all understanding grace your family during this difficult time. You were a fine young man and a brave soul. Missing you. ♥
I did not know you but I pray that your family gets through this horrible tragedy. May god rest his soul
Such a short life you had but you filled those lives around you with love, hope, encouragement, and kindness. You touched everyone who was blessed enough to know you. You will be missed and my prayers go to those who were closet to you.
Yehuda was a kind soul who gave back to the online community to which he belonged, offering support to other members with health concerns. May G-d bless him and bring comfort to his family and friends.
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved son. There really are no words to express how I and all of his friends on Facebook feel at the news of his passing. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that he was respected and loved by many, many people. Yehuda will be missed greatly. Nancy De Warenne
To Yehuda. Your 23 years were far too short for such a special person. I will miss you more than you know. So kind, sweet and very wise for one so young. I loved you…Yvonne
Yehuda was a special person. I was captivated by his piercing eyes. His honesty. His cheerfulness. We shared similarities in life and I cherished his friendship. My heart is heavy, my eyes cry salty tears, my mind is not at rest, please accept my condolences.
RIP my dear, dear friend.

I am a member of some of the Internet communities in which Yehuda participated regarding his health concerns. He was a positive influence and a light to more people than we can imagine. His words live on in these communities and so will continue to give hope to others in desperate straits.
So sorry to hear of this loss. He was much too young and had such a bright future. Keeping Yehuda’s family and community in my thoughts.
He will be missed ….he was so loved by many
Dearest Yehuda, your kindness to me will never be forgotten. Sleep in peace.
I knew him through an online support group for DS’ers. It’s a shock to hear that he is gone. He was such a cheery soul, and had a strong courageous heart. I lost a brother at 24 so I can imagine some of the pain you are going through, but he will live on through the people he touched. Blessed be. –Blackthorne99
I will miss him very much. He was a beautiful soul.. such a sweet, and loving person…wise beyond his age. Very compassionate, and genuine. way too young. I send my love to his family. I lost my mom a few months ago, suddenly in her sleep as well, she was not even 50, so I know there are no words that can take away the pain, but know that there are lots of people out here, that loved Yehuda, and are better off for having known him. He will be very missed…. lots of love, and comfort to his family… Read more »
