Simon.

Where is your second book? Why are we waiting?

I'd like to see Friedman's response, if at all
February 6, 2011 1:07 pm

I wonder if Mr. Friedman will ever see this response–and what his response might be. He’d probably spew pseudo-intellectual babble to avoid the cold hard facts.

The Rebbe's prediction
February 6, 2011 1:39 am

back in 1978, when Begin was considering giving up the Sinai in exchange for a “signed peace treaty with israel” the Rebbe predicted and clearly stated, who can know what will be with Egypt in another 30 or 40 years, and here we see it clearly. Just as the Rebbe answered former member of the Knesset Geulah Cohen in response to her question why the Rebbe does not encourage settlement in Chevron and the territories that “a time will come when a future government from Israel will uproot its own citizens and give over these very lands to our Arab… Read more »

Democracy will never take hold amongst the Arabs.
Israel can only hope for the cessation of war.
We are not dealing with geo- political issues but ones of a meta-physical nature.
Only Moshiach will bring peace.

Well answered (if a tad too long). Rabbi Jacobson should be a contributing caller to the Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC which gives a platform to anti Israel callers and anti Israel subject matter on an ongoing basis. This program appeals to a more “intellectual” type of listener (ie smart New Yorkers) and causes much harm. Their WNYC forum “its a free country” is also pro-arab and its time that we leveled the playing field!

Rabbi Jacobson-Thank you

For stating so articulately our own thoughts on the matter.

#3 valid question
February 5, 2011 8:48 pm

Here is a valid answer: Democracy can exist under the basic premise that citizens have the right to life. Where there exist a very large group of people whose ideology does not accept the above premise and condones the regular perpetration of terrorist activities- there cannot exist a democracy in the sense that you describe.

Reality in its best
February 5, 2011 2:14 am

This is another clear example where one (Tom Friedman) tries to deal with symptoms in a western style of quick aspirin for temporary calm. Versus one (Simon Jacobson) looking for the root cause correction/cure so no more symptoms will develop in the future.

Can Israel be democratic without a treaty?
February 4, 2011 4:52 pm

Thomas F points out that either Israel will need to separate from the Palestinians and give them a state or Israel is headed towards becoming a permanent undemocratic Apartheid state.

Is he wrong? Isn’t that a demographic reality?

And if it is, considering the fact that a peaceful two state solution is not at all practical –

Does this mean that in the long run, there will not be able to be democracy in Israel?

Or is there another option?
