It was a nusach ari shul built in 1922 by a group of families that came from the old country. However, there was no shliach until 1972.
in fact they did not even have an official Rabbi. By default the most knowledgeable person became the defacto rabbi including a sad stint by Zalmen Shechter (now Shalomi).
When Rabbi Altein arrived things changed and it became not just a shul but also a chabad house.
Since then, as they say, the rest is history…

To # 10. Yes as far as I know the first Lubavitch shul certainly in Canada, & perhaps inNorth America was in Winnipeg on Magnus Ave., run by a true chosid, Phil Kravetsky & his parents A”H.

Rabbi Altein has done a remarkable job in Winnipeg, & he truly eminates what a Shliach is about.

May Hashem give him many healthy & happy years to continue his work along with his family & the extended Kravetsky family.

It doesn’t say that Winnipeg is Canada’s largest city. It says that it is Manitoba’s largest city. : )

Winnipeg rocks!! Miss the Winnipeg Jets! …Sukkos at The Altein’s house; which began by sweeping snow of the schach, Gan Yisroel in Gimli, 40 degrees below zero and walking to shul.

Read the article again, it says it is the “largest city in the province of Manitoba”.
“I’m an Oholei Torah’nik and I’m proud from it” should be your slogan….
