A visit down memory lane.
A plastic crate filled with 10 pairs of Tefillin have surfaced in the main shul of Lubavitch Headquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood.
“It had obviously been sitting for many years from a time when 3 by 3 tefillin were more commonly seen around 770,” said Raanan Isseroff, a resident who notified COLlive about the find.
“Some of the Tefillin have names on them, most do not. The tefillin are all of good quality. They are Rashi and Rabbaynu Tam. Some are 4 by 4, most are 3.5 by 3.5. Most are gassos,” he said.
The crate was hidden away in one of 770’s many storage areas.
The estimate is that these pairs were left the public eye in one of the “cleanups,” when the large room would be straightened out before the Rebbe‘s entrance to deliver a sicha or maamar or hold a farbrengen.
Tefillin, seforim, coats and hats were quickly moved. It has become a ritual over the years to “find your hat,” coat or tefillin after such moves. Most often the item turned up, but sometimes things disappeared.
Isseroff said the newly found pairs of tefillin surfaced during a recent cleanup of one of these storage areas. One of the velvet bags has the name Yitzchok Boganum on it. Another the surname Levin.
The box is sitting on the front table in 770. Tefillin can be claimed with the gabboim or by calling 718-213-2956.
Are they chabad teffilin?
It could simply be that someone dropped of a box of Shaimus from some shul that closed in order for them to be buried.
so how come all the shvil guys don’t clean up 770 and leave it such a mess today
