The Rohr Bais Chaya Academy for girls in Tamarac, Florida, has embarked on a capital campaign to build a state-of-the-art dormitory for the next school year.
With 68 students in attendance in the high school for 9th-12th grade girls, they are turning to Lubavitchers worldwide to help ensure they can succeed.
“We are beginning our fundraising efforts with a unique twist,” said Rabbi Moshe Rabin, Executive Director of the school that enrolled Chabad girls from Florida and out of state students as well.
The school has obtained the publishing rights to a unique picture of the Rebbe, taking during a chassidic farbrengen in 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights on the auspicious day of Yud Shevat 5733.
Available for purchase on canvas in both full color, mix format, sepia or black/white, the limited edition image was made from the original negative by photographer Yakov Kopel Goldberg.
It has been restored and prepared by the Chassidic Art Institute using the highest printing standards and materials and is available for viewing at 375 Kingston Avenue.
“The picture is very unique and resonates the feeling of “Ayekah?” – Where are you holding in life? What have you achieved today? Are you giving the Rebbe Nachas?” Rabbi Rabin pointed out.
Goldberg related about taking that photo:
“It was my first time at 770, having come with Rabbi Avrohom Altein, the Rebbe’s shliach in Winnipeg.
During the farbrengen I pushed my way up behind the Rebbe’s table and proceeded to take many, many photos. Even during the ma’amar, when there is great respectful silence, I clunked away with my noisy camera.
“After the ma’amar, the Chassidim began to sing and the Rebbe turned to me and lifted his hand. At that moment I snapped the picture you now see.
“Then, moving the camera away from my face, I picked one thumb up, winked an eye and said “Good Shot!” to the Rebbe. He smiled broadly and motioned his finger to his lips (motioning to say L’chaim).
“As the Rebbe watched me (say L’chaim), I had the overwhelming feeling that, like some character in a fable, I had just sold my soul for a glass of wine. In truth, I did become the Rebbe’s, for I soon entered the Lubavitcher Yeshiva where I remained for the next 7 years.”
The photograph at various sizes can be purchased online and will be available for pickup during the Kinus Hashluchim. For more, visit baischaya.com/ayekah
Rabbi Yakov Kopel Goldberg is an amazing shaliach in Toronto. His Chabad House is a true extension of 770. Wishing him and his family much hatzlocha!
If you are a real Chosid you would know that the Rebbe would never motion to anyone with the intention of what you are referring to. This picture is predominantly merely one oof many testements to the Rebbe’s great love and concern for every Jew and the Rebbe’s ability to inspire and arouse the flame of Yiddishkeit that is concealed within every Jew. Rabbi Goldberg levitated to great heights in the Lubavitcher community and B’H has raised a beautiful Lubavitcher family that the Rebbe can be proud of. Also by the way did you know that Rabbi Goldberg was the… Read more »
