Rabbi Mendy and Rivky Wilansky, Chabad Shluchim in Moscow, celebrated the birth of their son with a traditional Bris Milah ceremony in one of the Jewish community buildings.
Adding to the joy of the occasion was the participation of the child’s grandparents – Rabbi Dovid Wilansky of New Jersey and Rabbi Yosef Leib Elishevitz of New York.
But what excited participants even more was the fact that this was the first time in over 45 years that Rabbi Elishevitz returned to his native country of Russia.
He was born in a chassidic home to parents dedicated to Torah, education and helping fellow Jews in those dark times under the watchful and merciless eyes of the Soviet regime.
After many challenges and dangers, his family managed to flee from Russia in 5727. Rabbi Elishevitz went on to become the rabbi of Beth HaKnesseth Ohr HaMizrach at the Gorsky-Kavkazi Jewish Center in New York.
Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar was honored with saying the brachos. The boy was named Yaakov Yehuda.
Firstly, Mazel Tov to Mendy and Rivky upon the birth of your son, Yaakov Yehuda! Secondly, what a beautiful Simcha where both Zeidys able to attend B”H, one actuallu going back to his birthplace!
