Itzik Benabou, a Crown Heights entrepreneur who shies away from media and the public stage, agreed to be the guest of honor of a gala event for United Lubavitcher Yeshiva on Crown Street in Crown Heights.
The “Comedy and Cocktails” event on June 14, 8:00 PM, will be held at the Jewish Children’s Museum and will feature the 6’6″ tall Jewish stand-up comedian Gary Gulman, a regular on comedy shows on television.
Aside from the laughter, the evening will be one of those rare occasions when the spotlight is on a self-made man of influence who is not accustomed to microphones and appreciation.
Benabou is the owner of many Crown Heights businesses, including Kol Tov Grocery on Kingston Avenue, Empire Kosher market on Empire Boulevard, The Market Place on East New York Avenue and most recently Kingston Pizza.
“Itzik and Devora know what it means to give back to the community,” Rabbi Eliyohu Davis, administrator of Lubavitcher Yeshiva, told COLlive.com. “Amongst many things they support is the yeshiva where their son Yoni learns.
“They have helped organizations as well as countless individuals. Their chesed extends far beyond the borders of the Crown Heights community. Many people turn to Itzik in their time of need, and he extends a helping hand to so many, in his modest way.”
