A new Torah unifying the Chabad community and Shluchim on the West Coast was begun on Gimmel Tammuz day at the Rebbe’s Ohel.
With the help of sofer Rabbi Moshe Klein, Head Shliach Rabbi Baruch Shlomo Cunin and others wrote the first letters.
The Torah is being written after a hachlata made at this year’s Los Angeles Lag B’Omer Parade, to write a Sefer Torah which would unify the Shluchim and Chabad community members on the West Coast.
“The Rebbe urges us to turn every positive moment into a “peula
nimsheches,” said Rabbi Chaim Nochum Cunin, who together with Rabbi Mendel Duchman, organized the effort. “Thus, the parade organizers undertook this special hachlata continuing the spirit of unity demonstrated on Lag B’Omer.”
The Sefer Torah Committee members also include Shluchim Rabbi Mendel Cohen, Rabbi Meyer Greene, Rabbi Yehoshua Harlig, Rabbi Reuven Mintz, and Rabbi Levi Raichik.
The Torah is set to be completed in time for Lag B’Omer of next year, when a Siyum will be held.
Once the Torah is completed, it will rotate from participating community to participating community, all of whose names will be prominently displayed on the Torah Mantel.
