If one just reads the letter of the Alter Rebbe he can have the sence that something is happening there.

One wonders whether R. Butman is aware that this story about R. Akiva Eiger and the letter from the Alter Rebbe is lo hayah velo nivra. (This was demonstrated a few years back in an essay by R. Yehoshua Mondshine. In particular, the letter was written to a person living in a town hundreds of miles from the one where R. Akiva visited.)

BH. You did not explain,. why on other sins, where there is more
than six years to think about having done wrong, why the ear is not pierced? And why other sins are not given six years for the sinner to think about, before being punished if he has not done teshuva, and that the punishment will come, at the end of six years?
