Fourteen years ago, Chanukah fell out on xmas. That prompted Rabbi Dov Greenberg, currently Shliach of Chabad at Stamford, to relate a true story of inspiration on the subject. He told the story at High Holiday services at Chabad of the Conejo, where he was then employed.
At the same time, a younger Mendy Pellin, today a known Chasidic comedian, was the High Holiday youth director. During most of services he ran from program to program making sure the hundreds of children were having a great time. During the entire Rosh Hashana, Mendy only had time to enter the Shul once for a few minutes, where he sat down to catch his breath. It was then that he heard an inspiring story by Rabbi Greenberg that stuck with him.
This year Mendy brought that story to life in a 3-minute film called ‘A Short Chanukah Drive.’

eisenhoward that was great
theese videos are fantastic and are a great way to spread light
Every year the videos get better – Remember the Rebbe said how we conduct ourselves even if we do not see the other person can have a lasting effect on someone else to bring them closer to yiddishkeit!
“Shared!”:-)
…those ‘distant’ Jews this is intended for might be turned off by its overdramatization, esp. the music.
Very good job, Mendy. No inappropriate “comedy”. An
important message well done.
Find someone this video will speak to and share it with them. (P.S. Good job Mendy! Surely this makes the Rebbe pleased.)
