The Aleph Institute just completed sending out thousands of Passover packages for Jewish U.S. military personnel serving in dangerous places around the world and Jewish inmates around the country.
While most Jewish men and women can go into their local grocery and find an assortment of Kosher for Passover products, there are some that don’t have that ability.
They are the Jewish U.S. military personnel serving in dangerous places around the world and Jewish inmates around the country.
For provide this diverse group with Pesach food packeges, the Aleph Institute contacts all prisons and all the Jewish service members and military chaplains to get correct numbers and shipping addresses.
The Miami-based Chabad organization, founded by Rabbi Shalom Ber Lipskar, then purchaces products and arranges the delivery of truck loads and truck loads of kosher for Passover food items to their warehouse.
Here are some of the numbers:
25,000 pounds of machine matzos, 1000 pounds of shmurah matzah, 5000 bottles of grape juice, 1200 seder plates (complete with shelf stable hard boiled eggs and charoses, bitter herbs and zeroas), 2000 containers of gefilte fish, 1500 containers of shelf stable chicken matzah ball soup, 15,000 cans of macaroons, and thousands of Haggados.
The packing and shipping is a massive undertaking. Aleph ships to US Naval vessels and to Afghanistan and to prisons in Louisiana and South Dakota and everything in between.
They begin the Pesach operation in December with the most important goal in mind of having everything delivered before ‘Kadesh’ is said on the seder night.
