sorry to contradict you. This nigun was taught to the Lubavitcher chasidim on Simchas Torah of 1956 in the big succah of 770
this niggun has been sung by many chasidim for MANY years, a little differently than it’s sung by chabad. not EVERYTHING belongs to Chabad.
it was just after the release of a CD called Expressions of the Soul, The Rebbe’s Niggunim, and sold by the thousands in Williamsburg, Boro Park and Monsey, that these Lubavitch Niggunim started being heard more frequently at the tish and farbrengens of other Chassidim. Thank you reb Meyer Rivkin. About a year or so ago, I contacted reb meyer to find out where I could get a few copies of that cd. The Rebbe taught chassidim this niggun, – it wasn’t in circulation before then
Come to Nadvorna Boro Park to hear frequent and beautiful renditions of classic niggunim of Lubavitch and other chsasidus, as was the case on Shabbos Chol HaMoed Sukkos when the Rebbe’s son (from Lakewood) dedicated Hallel to extraordinary and moving Lubavitch niggunim. As others have said above, no one has exclusivity. For better or worse, we are all G-d’s children, as it were.
