Welcome to Monday Torah, a weekly internet class with Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson, spiritual leader of Congregation Bais Shmuel in Crown Heights and a world renowned speaker and teacher.
This week’s class analyzes the story of Sarah’s hospitality, on which the Talmud comments that a “woman is more stingy with guest than a man.”
“This seems so unfair to say,” asks Rabbi Jacobson. “It is usually the woman who work endlessly to prepare for the guests!”
He presents six classic explanations which give us deep insight into the nature of men and women and what men do not understand about how women relate to guests.
This is a fascinating class that might change your perspective on your wife and on having guests.
The Monday evening class is aired weekly on TheYeshiva.net and on COLlive.com.

This really helped me understand my relationship with guests and why it is sometimes such a strain.
Yikes! What an awful thing to say and feel
For most women, having and dealing with guests is much harder than for most men. having guests for women is an experience that many man do not begin to understand. the class does bring out some of these truths.
YES.
instead of getting offensive, listen to the class. I think you will appreciate how sensitive it is to women.
my husband and i both hate guests ,prefering to spend time with each other and our kids !
There is a reason no one asks women what they think. Who in their right mind loves slaving away cooking for and cleaning up for men while you’re pregnant every year and raising your kids single-handedly so your husband can sit and entertain his guests?
No disrespect, but shouldn’t a WOMAN giver HER perspective??
Thank you
You are right but it is probably not what the Talmud means. So let’s stay put and listen to the explanation.
It depends on what kind of ‘man’ yu are. If you just sit at the head of the table, push your wife and kids off the table as there is no room. Then the men enjoy guests more then the NONSENSE – WOMAN DO NOT MIND THE WORK , If the woman is given the credit and respect she deserves, if having guests means including your whole family, so that too enjoy guests, and be part of it- then your statement is false.
The men enjoy guest more than women because they don’t have to work hard. The women do all the work
