Chayenu, the widely spread Torah learning publication, plans on releasing a much anticipated iPad App next month, COLlive has learned.
“This is a real game changer in terms of the way daily Torah study gets distributed to people around the world,” says Yossi Pels, Director of Digital Content for Chayenu.
The Chayenu App is slated to be the first native App of its kind- pushing daily Torah content, via the Newsstand feature on Apple, directly to iPad devices- with a new edition every week.
The 1.0 version will be followed by an app compatible with the iPhone and Android devices.
With the release of the app, Torah scholars and laymen alike, will instantly be able to access Torah content without the inherent restrictions of printing and shipping.
Chayenu currently distributes to 16 countries across the world, but shipping costs are making it prohibitive for Jews in more remote locations to have Chayenu shipped.
“With the release of the App, we enabling many more tens of thousands of Jews across the world to access the already ubiquitous study cycles of Chitas, Rambam, Geluah, Chasidus (and much more) included in Chayenu,” says Pels.
The app is being funded by in part by a grant from Montreal businessman Shmuel Gniwisch in memory of the talmid chacham R’ Gedalia Shaffer OBM whose Yahrtzeit is 17 Adar.
Chayenu has also received funding for the App from philanthropist Eliezer Kornhauser of Melbourne and an anonymous donor who enthusiastically partnered with Chayenu for the development.
The App will include links to relevant video and audio topics from the Chayenu content, and a detailed daily menu, so users can instantly and intuitively jump to any section of any day. There will also be links for content back to the publishers’ websites and links to other related content.
The price for the app is yet to be determined. To get involved in this project or to get informed of the release date, contact Digital@Chayenu.org
What’s the JEM app??
Exelent!!!!!!
!
It’s not new anymore, they’re slowly taking the market out of Apple’s hands… so far they’ve won the phone market, now the tablet market is slipping to android too (thanks to the Google nexus series) android is just as important, if not more then iPad and Apple, please keep that in mind when making tablet apps in the future!
So, this is a nice development, but please keep printing the paper too. Not everyone has a ipod/iphone to use or is where a good internet connection is. There is something very nice about the printed ones too.
As for game changing, and I am sure I may hear for this, there have been apps for Chomash, Tanya, and Rambam for many years already now.
