Congregation Bais Shmuel Chabad of Crown Heights spent the special Shabbos of Yud Tes – Chof Kislev being inspired by one of the most senior Chabad Shluchim and a trusted confidant of the Rebbe.
Rabbi Abraham Shemtov, Chairman of Agudas Chassidei Chabad International and the Head Shliach of Philadelphia, was the guest speaker to mark the celebration of liberty of the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad chassidism.
150 people came on Friday night for an inspiring and heartfelt farbrengen with Rabbi Shemtov, with him sharing directives he received from the Rebbe over the years.
Continuing until 4:00 am, he encouraged the yungeleit to follow the Rebbe’s directive of ‘asei lecha rav’, for each person to appoint themselves a mashpia – a trusted person that they look up to and can be guided by.
Speaking to a full crowd on Shabbos day, Rabbi Shemtov used his sermon to relate fascinating lessons from his shlichus in Washington, DC, as the Rebbe’s Shliach to the White House. The lighting of the National Menorah on the White House Ellipse is a yearly spectacular.
Following davening, some 250 people sat down for a festive Shabbos meal and farbrengen that continued until Mincha. Following Shabbos, Rabbi Shemtov joined congregants to watch a video of the Rebbe and begin the week on a spiritual note.
