After Gimmul Tammuz, the ‘reshimos’ journals the Rebbe often referenced but were never seen by the public, were discovered in a drawer in his room in Lubavitch Headquarters 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
The entries, written between the years 1928 and 1950, give a glimpse to the products of the Rebbe’s phenomenal mind, occupied with Torah while under unsafe circumstances in Berlin in 1933, Nazi-occupied Paris in 1941 and in Vichy France and Fascist Spain.
Excepts from these notebooks were prepared for publication by a team of scholars – among them Rabbi Yoel Kahn, Rabbi Dovid Feldman and Rabbi Yisroel Shimon Kalmenson – all associated with the Lahak publishing organization.
They provided tens of thousands of thirsting Chassidim with a weekly infusion of “new” teaching and insight from the Rebbe, Chabad.org noted.
The last of those pages were made public 10 years ago.
Correction: What many thought to be the last pages were published in 5760.
Rabbi Berel Levin and Rabbi Yitzchok Wilhelm of the Aguch Library adjacent to 770 recently discovered an overlooked entry which the Rebbe briefly wrote, an entry of notes and comments about the Alter Rebbe’s Likutei Torah.
The entry is an explanation about how in the Mishkan of Moshe Rabeinu, the fire was not in the shape of a lion because Moshe didn’t want an angel (Bamidbar 11:1).
“This is the last entry we know of for now,” Rabbi Chaim Shaul Brook, Director of Lahak, told COLlive.com. “But you never know.”
He said, “the library gave us the pages and our staff typed it, and spent time to decipher and edit the text with connecting words to help with understanding and learning it.”
It is currently being printed and should be ready on Tuesday in honor of Shvat 22, the yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson OBM, wife of the Rebbe.
Until then, it is available for free download at lahak.org.

[Free translation Hisvaduyos 1987 vol. 2 p. 338] Regrading this matter, it is necessary to negate the other extreme [attitude], a mistake of silly people, who are afraid of opening a Chabad House nearby, because they will take away the merit of putting on Tefillin with another Jew…. or thereby they will loose honor, and other similar reasons. Their silliness has become so great, that not only do they not allow another to open a Chabad House nearby, something they will never even discuss… but also, they will make [every effort] to throw the other out of the city, being… Read more »
