Yoni, Jewish Star Perform

People of all ages from all over New York gathered together for a concert under the stars in Cunningham Park, in Queens, NY, with South Africa’s talented Zalman Levy, Yoni Zigelbaum of Crown Heights and Michoel Pruzansky.

Opening the evening was Zalman Levy, who kicked off the show bringing some African fever to Queens as he sang a South African Jewish song- Yebo ‘ye- a Zulu/Hebrew melody with words from Tehillim by the Majuda Band, which had the crowd chanting the catchy Zulu words. Levy also sang Jewish classics that had Jews of all walks of life joining in along with him.

Yoni Zigelbaum then took over. He may only be 19, but all who know him are pointing at a very promising career. He was called to stage followed by an echoing applause as he entered singing Sholom Aleichem, nostalgic for all Jews followed by Gesher Tzar, Baruch Hagever and other hits which he sang with all his heart.

Everyone was also anxious to hear some brand new material off Michoel Pruzansky’s latest album, MP3, and he did not disappoint. During several numbers, Pruz came off the stage to dance with men and boys from the audience like it was a real simcha!

At the evening’s peak, Pruz called Yoni back on stage to duet two moving songs, Anovim and Vehi Sheomda. The audience was extremely touched by the well rehearsed duo of these two extremely powerful voices.

Levy has performed at a number of events since his Jewish Star debut including this summer at the Jewish Comedy Festival in Montreal and Miami’s Lag Baomer Parade. Asked about his unique and original style, Levy says he plans to continue performing worldwide, as well as releasing numerous new compositions.

Upon asking Yoni what 5772 holds in store, he smiled and answered “We’ve completed the States with Chasdei Hashem, and will Bezras Hashem begin a world tour this winter.” Yoni is also gearing up for his long awaited debut album.
