It’s a minhag to be more b’simcha on Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah than during Simchas Beis Hashoeva and even more than regular simchas Yom Tov. The Frierdiker Rebbe cautioned in the name of his father, the Rebbe Rashab: “These 48 hours we must hold very dear. Each moment we can draw treasures -buckets and barrels of Gashmiyus and Ruchniyus, through dancing.”
It’s the custom of Beis Horav to sell the psukim of Atah Haraisah, and to honor the Rebbe with the first and last posuk (nowadays – the whole first ‘Atah Haraisah’).
On the night of Simchas Torah the proceeds are earmarked for the benefit of Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch. This Simchas Torah will be one hundred thirteen years since The Rebbe Rashab announced the name “Tomchei Temimim”.
In Tof Shin Yud the gabay started selling the psukim of Ato Hor’eiso and honored The Frierdiker Rebbe with saying the first posuk, without announcing who bought it.
The Frierdiker Rebbe then said: “It’s necessary to know who is buying. If the buyer doesn’t know what to have in mind, then the one honored with saying the posuk has to know what to have in mind for the buyer.” After the gabay made the announcement, The Frierdiker Rebbe said: “A balebos has to have fortitude, but he must know where to use it. You (the person who was gabay at the time) have Da’as to use your fortitude.”
We’ve been privileged to see The Rebbe’s personal participation during the announcements of Ato Hor’eiso. May we see it again this year!
