Family and friends of Shmuel Gershon Meislish OBM traveled Wednesday morning to visit his grave and mark his yahrzeit found themselves facing a hurdle they thus only heard on the news.
Meislish, one of the outstanding bochurim in the Central Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim in Kfar Chabad, passed away on Shvat 29, 5741.
His father, the Mashpia Rabbi Avrohom Meishlish and others took a mini bus to the Har HaZeisim cemetery in the Arab populated East Jerusalem.
On their way, they hit traffic and were suddenly approached by Arab teens coming out of a school building.
“The traffic was orchestrated by them to trap us,” claimed Amos Mifey, a Lubavitcher from Lod and driver of the Mercedes mini bus.
“Youngsters in their teens – they seemed as young as schoolchildren – had blood in their eyes and were continuously throwing stones at us that were bigger than potatoes,” he said.
Two passenger windows were shattered.
Avraham Shechter, a passenger, says he didn’t believe he would one day find himself in such a situation.
“I heard a lot about these stories in the past,” he said. “I was sitting on the right side of the bus and saw death in front of my eyes. One stone almost hit my head.”
The driver managed to maneuver his way out and said “it as an open miracle that no one was hurt,” although many were covered in glass.

Two years ago we were also stoned in The City of Olives on the way to Har Hazeisim. I have two large rocks that broke one of the car windows as a reminder.Students came out of the school at around 1:00 p.m. and surrounded us throwing rocks with a strong force. The Israeli soldiers get rocks thrown at their jeeps too. The car rental place are used to broken windows. When we go now to Har Hazeisim we call the chevra kadisha who send two shomrim along , also we drive from the bottom up a steep pathway to the top(not… Read more »
