Shot glasses were raised and a joyous L’chaim was said at Chabad Mumbai after hearing President Obama‘s speech announcing the death of 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden.
Six of its occupants, including Rabbi Gabi and Rivki Holtzberg hy”d, were murdered there in 2008 by Pakistani Islamic terrorists with close ties to Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda.
“Baruch Hashem,” responded Rabbi Chanoch Gechtman, the current director of the Chabad House, praising G-d.
“There were a few visiting businessman here when we heard the news and there was great excitement and happiness. It was more than a personal joy; it’s the joy of good winning over evil.”
With Islamist terrorist organizations promising to revenge the arch-terrorist’s death, Gechtman was asked if he was concerned about his safety.
“We are not thinking about revenge attacks and are not afraid,” he said, noting that the address of the current Chabad House, moved from the Nariman House, is no longer publicized and only given by word of mouth.
Aviad Yanai, an Israeli backpacker visiting the Indian capital, said the local police “was taking the security concerns very seriously.”
